For the past 5 months I have been working in creating my own micro ISV Company and at the same time doing work as a consultant to help with the cash flow. During these months, I have been able to get discounts and even free licenses for software development tools from other software vendors that are willing to help out “solo” start-ups like myself.
I want to create a micro ISV and start with a very simple but usable application that will help self-employed people and micro businesses manage their contacts and tasks better. There are many tools out there that help with this, however, I am yet to find a solution that offers a tool with the solo entrepreneur in mind, and most of these tools are designed for businesses of two or more people.
I am basically building something that I need and will start using right away, and then I hope that other people like me will have a use for it as well and will be willing to pay some money for it. My goal is to create a very simple tool and get it out there as soon as possible.
I am still a bit undecided about the platform; I think I will build it as a web application or as a hosted service (SaaS). Another option is to create a windows application that will have to be installed in the client computer, the advantage of the latter is that some people will feel more comfortable by not having their information online and or hosted by someone else.
The good thing about all of this is that I am having fun and I am learning a lot from this experience, all of these years I have been working for different companies and doing freelance software development work, always working on somebody else’s product/application. It is sincerely very motivating to be creating something for my own company, and hopefully something that somebody else will find useful as well.
I will be putting a new website soon to start promoting this application, in the meantime, I’ll keep writing about it as I continue developing it.
I welcome all ideas, criticism and any other type of feedback!
